“I live my life quietly attentive, allowing my insight and concept to advance in an organic manner. My concerns lie within unification and cosmology―the search to find one in the other. I explore my personal relationship with the natural world from the microscopic to the macrocosmic. Currently, I am making sculptures and drawings that examine the disconnect our culture has constructed between ‘man’ and ‘nature.’ My process is a venue that allows me to bridge that gap.”

Joseph Campbell speaks of the purpose of life as the search for the experience of being alive. How can one feel more alive than by seeing one's self in relation to one's own environment. It is to see, physically, mentally, and spiritually, one's connection to nature. It is to feel perpetually the breath one exhales into the movements and the processes surrounding an individual, and to inhale the insufflation of the reciprocal breath. It is in search of this experience that Sam Hooper makes art.
